In 2020, FWP continued and expanded a 14-year program of monitoring recreation use on the Blackfoot River. 2020 was a unique year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Record numbers of vehicles, people, and boats were recorded. In-person surveys were not conducted due to safety protocols and COVID-19. The basis of monitoring efforts included traffic counters at the FAS sites, camera monitoring along the river, and data given to FWP from outfitters.

Chrissy Oschell, River Recreation Manager for Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, recently presented the results of this study at public meetings in the Blackfoot. Click here for the complete report.
