ABOUT OUR WATERSHED

The Blackfoot Watershed of western Montana encompasses 1.5-million acres, extending from the Continental Divide westward for some 132 miles to its confluence with the Clark Fork River. This landscape lies within the only ecosystem in the lower 48 states with a full complement of wildlife that inhabited the area when the Lewis and Clark Expedition traveled up the Blackfoot River in 1806. Prairie grasslands, sagebrush steppe, coniferous forest and extensive wetland and riparian areas contain more than 600 species of vascular plants, including six rare plant communities.
