Annual Trumpeter Swan Release Day

Thursday, September 8th, 2016
Jones Lake, Ovando

Members of the Blackfoot Trumpeter Swan Restoration Program began releasing swans in 2004. This year marks the 6th year in a row that trumpeter swans have successfully nested in the valley for possibly the first time in over 200 years. Join us on Thursday, September 8th and be a part of this historic effort:

  • Hear the story about how the restoration program in the Blackfoot began,
  • Learn about trumpeter swan biology, habitat and characteristics
  • Participate in learning stations about wetland ecology, bird watching and aquatic invasive species
  • WIN THE CHANCE TO RELEASE A SWAN! Raffle tickets will be available for purchase the morning of the release for $20 each.

Directions to Jones Lake: Approximately 1/2 mile west of Ovando on Highway 200, turn north on gated dirt road (look for signage). Then drive approximately 1 mile to the release site.
